Above breakeven. Each extra dollar of spend should earn its keep, if lead cost holds.

Read me first: this is arithmetic on the numbers you entered, not a forecast. Breakeven ROAS is 1 divided by your gross margin: at a 40% margin you need $2.50 back for every $1 spent just to stand still. Real lead costs move with the season and the competition.

The reason why

Breakeven ROAS: the number most ad reports leave out

An ad dashboard that says “4x ROAS” sounds like a win. Whether it is depends on your margin. If you keep 20 cents of every dollar after materials and labor, you need $5 back for every $1 of ads to break even. A 4x return at that margin loses money, politely.

The formula is short: breakeven ROAS equals 1 divided by your gross margin. Know that line before you spend, and judge every campaign against it rather than against an agency’s favorite chart.

Questions about the ROAS & Profit Margin Calculator

Plain answers about what the tool does, what it doesn't, and what to do next.

What is a good ROAS for Google Ads?
Any ROAS above your breakeven. Breakeven ROAS is 1 divided by your gross margin, so a business keeping 40% needs 2.5x just to cover ads and costs, and one keeping 20% needs 5x. A "good" number in one trade loses money in another, which is why industry averages mislead.
How do you calculate breakeven ROAS?
Divide 1 by your gross margin, written as a decimal. At a 50% margin, breakeven is 1 divided by 0.5, or 2x: every dollar of ads must bring back two dollars of revenue. Below that line each sale from ads costs you money. Above it, the ads earn a profit.
What is the difference between ROAS and ROI?
ROAS compares revenue with ad spend only. ROI compares profit with the total cost, including the cost of doing the work. A campaign can show strong ROAS and still have poor ROI if margins are thin. This calculator shows both views: ROAS, breakeven ROAS, and profit after margin and ad spend.
Can a San Antonio ad agency guarantee a ROAS?
No honest one will. Results depend on your prices, your margins, your sales process, and what competitors bid that month. What an agency can promise is the work: tight targeting, negative keywords, pages that convert, and call tracking, so the return is measured instead of estimated.
